Our Story

Compassion, Creativity, Convenience, Community

Emerging from our own experiences with love and loss, Lori Davidson and I set out to create a personalized way to bring comfort to families going through similar pet loss experiences and to offer unique gifts that bring comfort to a grieving pet lover while honoring the memory of a cherished companion.  It began with our custom memorial flower product, aptly named the “Pet Perennials Kit.”

The DIY gardening kit generates new life from the love of a pet through the sowing and growing of perennial wildflower seed wafers. Our story and gift offerings bloomed from there.

We believe that pets are family! The chief focus of the pet retail industry is to sell food, treats, toys, collars and leashes, leaving few options to help people at the end stage of a pet’s life. Pet Perennials fills that void. Our mission is to get our gifts into the hands of people who need them the most though caring consumers and businesses like you!

Compassion, creativity, convenience and community guide our endeavors. Our Direct to Consumer packages do more than just express a feeling or show support. They help people participate in the special moments of their pets’ lives by commemorating the bond they share allowing them to move from grieving to fondly remembering.

Like a Perennial, our story is perpetual

While we got our start bringing comfort to people at the end stage of a pet’s life, there are many steps on the journey with our companions. Pet Perennials helps celebrate them, from rescues and adoptions to overcoming illness, from birthdays to loss, our personalized packages celebrate important milestones people share with their pets! We also design and produce some of our unique gift offerings.

Olive the Yellow Lab Our Inspiration for Pet Perennials

Chief Inspiration Officer: Olive

Olive was an adorable, smiling Labrador Retriever mix and Remy’s inspiration for the original Pet Perennials product. Olive was a special gal, gentle kind and quite an athlete! She loved to play fetch, enjoyed long walks with Remy and sniffing out the deer in her backyard. Remy was fortunate because Olive joined her every day at her former business office. She held her rightful place on the loveseat there for 7 beautiful years.

Olive became suddenly ill one day, and within a short while was diagnosed with acute kidney failure. Unfortunately, the illness was irreversible and her body failed her quickly. It was a very difficult time, yet Olive’s spirit is alive and is celebrated through this endeavor.

Today, Remy is joined at the office by Harley. Like her sister that preceded her in life, she is a sweet and active Labrador Retriever mix. Their demeanors are very similar, though there are two distinct differences: Harley loves water while Olive did not, and Harley’s coat is black whereas Olive’s was white. However, there is a tiny streak of white under her chin that begs the question - Did Olive’s spirit return?

Our current Fur Workers Cats named Snookie and Pumpkin

Chief Instigators: Snookie and Pumpkin

After losing two 16-year-old Bichons within months of each other, Co-founder Lori Davidson struggled to think of having another pet, let alone two. In 2008 she welcomed Snookie into her home. While Snookie is a cat, Lori refers to him as dog-cat. He enjoys waking her early so he can be fed by tapping her face and saying, “Mom.” When he wants to be let outside, he runs to the door and meows, “Out.” If it is inclement weather, she will tell him, “Tomorrow” and he will mimic it right back. He also likes to steal pens and hide them.

In 2016, Lori welcomed a kitten into her family. She named her Pumpkin. Pumpkin is a rescue that Lori nursed back to health after a neighbor found the nearly lifeless kitten in the woods. The neighbor knew that Lori would give it the proper care and love it desperately needed. Today Pumpkin is spry and healthy. She and Snookie are thick as thieves, although they both crave the spotlight of their mom’s attention.
